Heretic or Genius...you be the judge.

Today I for some reason was inspired. Dont really know by what or by whom but inspired nevertheless. This particular creation is kind of an oxymoron. Well its a bacon wrapped chili dog. Theres nothing wrong about any of that sentence, you might be saying to yourself. But notice on the right, that I used Hebrew National jumbo beef Kosher franks. We have some leftover applewood smoked bacon from a previous episode. 2 cans of Hormel Chili with beans. One is Spicy and the other is Chunky.

Next up, wrap the bacon around the franks and secure them with toothpicks. Before I started this part of the process, I had fired up the grill and placed the 2 cans of chili on the top rack of the grill. Why? because I would like this recipe to be a new camp ground treat. Something to make it a little bit more special. That means that this treat can be made in a camp fire at your favorite camping ground or perhaps for a hunting of fishing trip.

Ok, so now we are ready to place the franks on the grill.  I used to burners so that there was plenty of heat for the chili on top. Close the lid and check every 3 to 4 minutes. Rotate the franks so that the bacon cooks evenly and it does not char or burn. While you wait for your treats, crack open a can of ginger ale and contemplate how you may or may not be damned for an eternity in a lake of fire, for wrapping up kosher franks in bacon.

Once you take them off the grill, remove the toothpicks and set aside to cool down. Head back out and carefully remove your cans of chili and after you bring them back inside, take a spoon and give it a good stir. Dont forget that the can maybe be warm so use oven mitts or other protective measure. You may notice I used brat buns for this so that they could hold more chili. Garnish your chili dog with cheese and whatever else you care for like onions, sweet pickle relish, mustard, potato sticks and/or anything else your pretty little head can imagine.

once again, enjoy. buen provecho

Mahalo.
